In traditions worldwide there is a universal concept that an "other than physical", some say divine Spark of Life is the essence of what makes us human. Sometime during or after conception this Spark of Life and the physical body of the child becomes entangled. At death this Spark of Life leaves the physical body and we describe this separation as death. While death may describe the state of the physical body, we know that in physics, energy can never be created or destroyed, it may only change form.
In our temporal physical world all things have their seasons of birth age and death, yet something about our sentient consciousness allows us to witness the temporal world from a "relative state of timeless being". To illustrate the relativity of how we experience time, remember a time when time flew, and a time when time just "flew by"? Practitioners of meditation and yoga confirm that there are achievable states of consciousness, where time becomes still. Neroscience has been looking for the physical location of our beingness and cannot locate a single physical space. Many mind-body advocates now agree that consciousnes, in that it's defintion is "an awareness of self" can be observed in cells, organs, systems and the entire physical animal.
An obvious conclusion is that the basis of the human condition is in fact the intersection of a
material/physical/temporal/outer world
and
energetic/spiritual/timeless/inner world.
This conclusion fits an Eastern model of medicine, but more importantly reflects the research conclusions coming from Quantum Mechanics. Buddhist and Hindu traditions both remind us of our dyadic nature and that the outer world is maya (or illusion) while the brilliance of the human spirit can be found through practices that engage timeless consciousness. From ancient times it has been known that mathematically resonant sacred sounds, made by the gong, the conch shell horn, Himalayan Bowls, Peruvian Whistling Vessels and Tibetan Overtone Chanting can shift the locale of consciousness from what is currently the predominate locale of waking consciousness, the left hemisphere. If you are thinking in words, you are using the more temporal, left hemisphere. If your experience 'takes your breath away", you have shifted to the right hemisphere. To see which hemisphere you are using now click the YouTube clip to your right.

By choosing to engage in right hemisphere timeless experiences, you will benefit by finding greater degrees of inner awareness, raise our vibratory field, and balance the energies of our subtle and physical bodies. There are many ways to achieve this balance of the temporal and timeless. Some of the traditional approaches include quiet meditation, yoga, tai-chi, movement chi-gong. Even a well executed massage can take you to a timeless place and provide some degree of balance.
All of these disciplines can take many years to master yet with sacred sound, even novice travelers can experience profound states of relaxation, in a short period of time.
